November 1 st
We were armed with about $50 worth of Halloween candy — yes, overzealous indeed — but had the chance to treat only three trick-or-treaters from our neighborhood. It was so disappointing.
Two hours passed with us idling around, snacking on Snickers bars, waiting for something to happen. But, no dice. Just when we thought our Halloween was a bust…
October 18 th
It’s already Sunday. The busyness of the holiday weekend wore me out … or maybe it was dressing myself up in a sari that did me in. So many safety pins make you a bit crazy.
But Ben and I started the year off right: with our health, humor, faith, compassion and a clean house intact!
With Momma Shushi in tow, we visited two temples to see each day’s annual festivities, which were boisterous and colorful just like the beginnings of a new year should be.
There was also a lot of personal styling in between — see for yourself — and Sal Mubarak.
October 14 th
Whenever a trip to California looms, I begin to strategize ways to spend time with a jillion people within three days. That’s when the stress begins.
But careful planning (e.g. congregating the masses in one place) allows me to see a majority of my beloveds, particularly those of the Spartan variety. These are the people who saw me through the latter half of my college career, the half that was driven by deadlines, kryptonite and a small pub called the Flying Pig.
Miles and schedules may get in the way, but we manage to stay in touch (thanks, Internets!). And in touch we shall stay until senility gets in the way.
